Activated carbon

Activated carbon is a porous material of natural origin and is considered one of the most powerful adsorbents known. Its main feature is the large internal surface area developed during activation, made up of thousands of pores classified as micro-, meso- and macropores. This surface area usually ranges from 500 to 1,200 m²/g.

Its exceptional adsorption properties make activated carbon a solution for any sector that needs water in its final production. The ability of the molecules in a fluid to concentrate on the surface of the solid makes activated carbon widely used in processes that aim to purify, decolorize, recover and remove odors, achieving high efficiency at low cost.

All our activated carbon is produced under rigorous, tightly controlled processes, at high temperatures that create the conditions for physical activation.

Granular activated carbon

Granular activated carbon is made from coconut and babassu shells, a 100% Brazilian, highly sustainable and environmentally friendly product for filtering impure solutions. Its structure has pores on the contact surface, providing a large effective area. These pores can retain particles inside them, removing impurities without changing the composition of the solution.

Purification consists of passing the liquid through layers of activated carbon. Impure organic particles are trapped in the pores, and it can even capture gases, leaving the water odor-free. It is the most suitable form for processes that require gas-phase purification.

Powdered activated carbon

Powdered activated carbon is made from pine wood from reforestation. This form is generally used in batch processes and has the advantage of flexible dosing and a wide range of industrial applications. Sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food, municipal sanitation and chemicals, among others, can benefit from it.

Powdered activated carbon is usually mixed into the liquid to be treated and then removed by filtration or sedimentation after a set contact time. Its particle size is ideal for broad contact with the liquid being purified, and it has the necessary settling characteristics.

Thanks to its high efficiency, powdered activated carbon allows minimal dosing, improving filterability and its later removal from the liquid.

Pelletized activated carbon

Pelletized activated carbon is formed into pellets about the size of a cereal grain. This form makes it easier for water to flow through and improves the performance of the filter media. Pelletized activated carbon can remove contaminants from gases and liquids because it forms few preferential channels in the bed and has greater mechanical strength than other types of activated carbon.

Pelletized activated carbon is recommended for gas-phase applications and catalysis, and is also an excellent filter medium for freshwater and marine aquariums and ornamental fish ponds.

Note that this is an imported carbon made from the same raw material as granular activated carbon; the difference is that, during processing, the carbon goes through a machine that crushes and agglomerates it into this more compact form.
